"They're like Flying Lotus meets BadBadNotGood…They've got classical training, but they bring real live energy."

Our Bio

Butterfly Snapple is a band based out of Miami, Florida formed in 2016. A passion project for jazz students at the Frost School of Music, the group found steady work and a demand for their unique blend of hard hitting grooves with more abstract explorations of sound. Whether playing at the III Points music festival opening for Khruangbin, being featured artists for the 2017 MLB All-Star Gala, or trying out new music at local dive bars, an unwavering love for music and spontaneity is the group’s trademark.

Camilo Velez - Bass

Diego Melgar - Guitar

John Small - Electronics

Zander Ambrose - Drums

our mission

Influenced by a wide range of music, a Butterfly Snapple show is an exciting unpredictable experience. As your head bops up and down, the textures moving the groove along can draw inspiration from producers such as Madlib, J Dilla, Teebs, DJ Rashad, DJ Earl, earlier pioneers such as Sun Ra, John Coltrane, Donald Byrd, or music from around the world such as Japanese taiko drums or Indian ragas. Any sound is valid in the goal of expressing emotions through music. This ethos allows the band to touch the hearts of any audience they find themselves playing for.
